SIXTH BULK CARRIER DELIVERED BY CSL
“Clipper Tenacious” the sixth and the last of the series of Bulk Carriers built by CSL for M/s Clipper Group, Denmark was delivered today. Tomorrow, the vessel will be sailing off on her first voyage. It is a matter of great pride for Cochin Shipyard that the entire project has been completed four months ahead of schedule.
The ship is designed and built as a single screw diesel engine driven Bulk Carrier for unrestricted worldwide service. The vessel complies with the requirements for type “B” ships defined by the International Convention on Load Lines, 1966. The ship is capable of carrying Dry bulk, break bulk cargoes such as grain, metal concentrates, iron ore, scrap metal, coal, bauxite, salt and sugar. The ship is 178.70 M long, with a breadth of 28 M, depth of 14 M and draft of 9.5 M. The ship can carry gross tonnage of about 19,918 and has a grain holding capacity of 40,000 m3. With a speed of 14.30 knots the vessel is built under the special survey and inspection of the Classification Society of the American Bureau of Shipping.
Presently the Yard is constructing 18 Platform Supply Vessels for European clients. Total order book of CSL consists of 19 ships including the prestigious Air Defence Ship for the Indian Navy.
The yard’s proposal for setting up of a Small Ship Division with earmarked facilities for building of small commercial ships has gathered momentum. The yards achievement in 2006-07 has been impressive with a net profit of Rs. 58 Crores and Turnover of Rs.800 Crores. The net profit has grown three times and turnover double as compared to 2005-06.
