Bulk Carrier delivered by CSL two months ahead of schedule-Sails off today

1. “Clipper Texan” the fifth of the series of six Bulk Carriers being built by CSL for M/s Clipper Group, Denmark sailed off from Cochin, today, on her first voyage. The vessel is going to Australia to load cargo. Earlier, the vessel was formally handed over to the owner on 10 August 2007, two months ahead of schedule. This was a tremendous achievement for CSL and gave considerable value addition to the owner. CSL is planning to deliver the last vessel of the series, later this year which would be three months ahead of schedule.

2. The ship is designed and built as a single screw diesel engine driven Bulk Carrier for unrestricted worldwide service. The vessel complies with the requirements for type”B” ships defined by the International Convention on Load lines, 1966. The ship is capable of carrying Dry bulk, break bulk cargoes such as grain, metal concentrates, iron ore, scrap metal, coal , bauxite, salt and sugar. The ship is 178.70 M long, with a breadth of 28 M , depth of 14 M and draft of 9.5 M . The ship can carry gross tonnage of abt 19,918 and has a grain holding capacity of 40000 m 3. With a speed of 14.30 knots the vessel is built under the special survey and inspection of the Classification Society of the ABS.

3. Presently the yard is constructing 17 Platform Supply Vessels for European clients and one more bulk carrier for M/s Clipper, Denmark is under construction. Total order book of CSL is 19 ships including the Prestiguous Air Defence Ship for the Indian Navy.

4. The yards proposal for setting up of a Small Ship Division with earmarked facilities for building of small commercial ships has gathered momentum. The yards achievement in 2006-07 has been impressive with a net profit of Rs 58 Crores and Turnover of Rs 800 Crores. The net profit has grown three times and turnover two times as compared to 2005-06.
